Bode's on The Travel Channel Monday May 13, 2013!!

Local Fire: Travel Channel series spotlights four of N.M.’s finest burger joints

Destination: Bode’s General Store

North in Abiquiu, Dennis Liddy and his wife, Constance, have owned the Bode’s General Store for about 20 years. The original store opened in the late 1890s and the store’s namesake, Martin Bode, a German immigrant, was looking for work and bought the store in 1919.
Motz says a food reviewer recommended Bode’s and it appears as the fourth act, a time in each episode when he features a burger he hasn’t eaten before: “Now I love it. The Liddys are great people.”
Bode’s green chile cheese burger is a half-pound handmade patty with New Mexico green chile, served with melted cheddar on a seeded bun.
COURTESY OF THE TRAVEL CHANNEL These four are some of the best, George Motz says of his New Mexico choices for the new Travel Channel series, Burger Land. These places have great hamburgers and great stories. Here, he gets ready to take a bite at Bobcat Bite in Santa Fe.

Report Illegal Dumping! Here is the link with form.

Partners for a Clean New Mexico - Link here.

Illegal dumping is a serious and chronic problem in New Mexico. It causes significant negative impacts to public health and safety, the environment, water quality, aesthetics, and our economy. Many entities are taking action to address the causes and effects of illegal dumping. With this plan, these organizations and individuals joined together as the Partners for a Clean New Mexico to leverage resources – staff time, technical expertise, legal authority, and funding – dedicated to addressing illegal dumping. The intent of the Partners is to increase effectiveness in addressing illegal dumping, to produce measurable results, and to encourage changes in attitude and behavior.

In 2008, a strategic collaboration known as “Partners for a Clean New Mexico” (PCNM) was formed to combat illegal dumping throughout the State of New Mexico. The founding members of this this collective partnership included the following stakeholders: Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, New Mexico Tourism Department, New Mexico Environment Department, New Mexico Department of Transportation, New Mexico Energy, Minerals & Natural Resources Department, New Mexico Department of Indian Affairs, New Mexico Clean & Beautiful, New Mexico State Land Office, Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Council, Department of Finance & Administration, New Mexico Recycling Coalition, and New Mexico Association of Counties.
The Partners have agreed to work together to provide education on proper waste disposal and recycling methods, address illegal dump clean up and maintenance, and support increased prosecution and conviction of violators. Each organizations resources, strengths and authorities will be tapped to provide a new collaborative approach to an old problem. The Partners, with public input, developed a statewide strategic plan to address illegal dumping throughout New Mexico. The document was signed on July 28, 2008 at a formal ceremony at the New Mexico State Capitol.
The founding Partners look forward to other interested state, federal, tribal, private, not-for-profit entities joining the effort. The New Mexico Association of Counties serves as the fiscal agent for this initiative and will work closely with the New Mexico Recycling Coalition to receive funds for implementation of this plan.

Preserve our Local History

by abiquiulibrary

Preserve our Local History

-Thanks to a grant from New Mexico State Archives, the library is in the process of digitizing some historic spiritual journals and family photos from Abiquiu Pueblo, to ensure the preservation of our history for future generations. If any Abiquenos have family photos, including wedding photos, family celebrations, fiestas, people working in their gardens or riding on horseback or any other images that show life in the village from an earlier period, we would like to help preserve your family's history. The donor would keep all the original photos; the library would simply make digital copies and add the images to our digital archive. You could help by identifying the people in the pictures or adding stories. Call the library to arrange an appointment with one of the team of volunteers working on creating this archival record of Abiquiu's history.

Summer Youth Program
-Pueblo de Abiquiu Library is already making plans for our summer reading / art/ gardening program for students on the theme of Dig into Reading.
The schedule will be announced next month.

Books
Come and browse and check out books. We have a great selection of books- novels, mysteries, Southwest history, art, how to crafts, non-fiction. We are always adding and updating our books. The librarian often displays new selections at her entry desk.

Volunteers Needed
If you want to volunteer to help with our summer reading program or volunteer as a homework
doctor or help organize our book shed or have good ideas for fundraisers, we welcome
and need volunteers. Come join us
:
Thank you
 .
A great big Thank you for Ms. Victoria Morales for volunteering to help our Center on a weekly basis, and for her hard work in putting
our books for sale on Amazon.com  It is very much appreciated.
Also, thanks to Joshua Salazar for his hard work in cleaning our back yard.

David Fant has been coming to our Library every Sunday to see if there is anyone to take advantage of his free tutoring services for Math.
Please keep him in mind each Sunday and make use of this very giving offer of his time to assist anyone in Math before the school year ends!
